You manage a virtual environment built on VMware vSphere Enterprise Edition. You need to configure a standard virtual switch on an ESXi host to be scalable and resilient. Two physical network adapters on the ESXi host are used to connect to a physical Ethernet switch using ports configured for IEEE-802.3ad. You need to configure the virtual switch to ensure it is properly configured to support the physical port configuration.

Requirements:

Modify a standard virtual switch and attach a second network adapter.

Modify the port group on the virtual switch to support IEEE 802.3ad.

Environment Information:

ESXi host: host-02.lab.local

Virtual Switch: vSwitch1

Virtual switch port group name: Test-01

Network adapter preconnected to the virtual switch: vmnic7

Network adapter to attach to the virtual switch: vmnic1

Solution

To accomplish this task, the administrator can perform the following steps:

Use the vSphere Client to navigate to Inventory > Hosts and Clusters.
In the inventory pane, select host-02.lab.local.
Select Configuration tab > Networking.
Locate the virtual switch vSwitch0 and click its Properties button.
Select the Network Adapter tab. Click Add.
Select vmnic1. Click OK.
Select the Test-01 port group and click Edit.
On the NIC Teaming tab, set the load balancing option to Route based on IP hash.
