Scenario:

You are responsible for configuring clusters in a vSphere environment. You strive to maximize high availability. You want to ensure that the datastores used for HA heartbeats are backed by storage devices that reside on two separate RAID volumes in your storage array.

Requirements:

Configure HA datastore heartbeats to preferably use datastores named VMFS-11 and VMFS-12; however, they can use other datastores if one or both of these are unavailable.

Cluster name: Cluster-01

Solution

To accomplish this task, the administrator can perform the following steps:

Use the vSphere Client to select Inventory > Hosts and Clusters.
Right-click the HA cluster, and select Edit Settings.
Select Datastore Heartbeating.
Choose Select any of the cluster datastores taking into account my preferences, and check the boxes next to VMFS-11 and VMFS-12.
