Scenario 9
< Back | Next>
Scenario:
You manage a DRS/HA cluster containing VMs that are stored in a single area network (SAN) with array-based replication to a remote site for DR purposes. You want to reduce the amount of replicated data. You need to configure the VMs such that their swap files are not replicated.
Requirements:
- Configure the cluster and ESXi hosts such that swap files are stored on a specific nonreplicated datastore.
- Verify that VMs are configured to utilize the cluster’s settings for the swap file location.
Environment Information:
- Cluster: Cluster-01
- Nonreplicated datastore: VMFS-01
Objective: 3.2 Optimize Virtual Machine Resources

Solution
- Edit the cluster settings, and set its Swap file Location to Store the swapfile in the datastore specified by the host.
- Edit each ESXi host in the cluster, and set each one’s Virtual Machine Swapfile Location to VMFS-01.
- Edit the VM and ensure its Swapfile Location is set to Store in the host’s swapfile datastore or Default.
