18. Carling. Thomas Carling was a Yorkshireman who emigrated to Ontario in 1818. His home-brewed beer was a great local success, and the Carling company was established in London, Ontario, in 1840. Many years later the brewery was acquired by E. P. Taylor's Canadian Breweries Ltd., which duly became Carling O'Keeffe, thereafter merging into Molson, which of course would become Molson-Coors. Thus did the wheel come full circle, for when Bass sold its breweries post-Thatcher's Beer orders, the Carling brand was acquired by Coors.
